Panasonic is known in the field of professional notebooks thanks to its rugged mobile, thanks to the realization that features both hardware and software, offering unmatched strength and reliability, especially suitable for extreme operating environments. Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 is the main model of this family, and now the Japanese company shall update the platform hardware and connectivity, to keep it up-to-date and able to withstand any challenge and work commitments.

The changes relate to three main areas: the processor, video card and networking. The Performance version, the new Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 MK2 comes with dual-core processor Intel Core i5-2540M with a clock rate of 2.6 GHz (3.3 GHz with Turbo Boost), while the Standard version adopts a dual-core Intel Core i5-2520M with a frequency of 2.5 GHz, rising to 3.2 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost. These processors also support Intel vPro, Intel is a collective name under which collects various technologies, hardware and software, designed to increase safety and productivity. Intel vPro technology offers capabilities such as data encryption and remote possibility of intervention in case of technical problems.

As for the graphics card, always the Performance version of the Toughbook CF-31 MK2, passes from the previous AMD Radeon HD 5650 to Radeon HD 6750M, with 480 unified pipelines, working frequencies of 600 MHz for core and shader units and 900 MHz for GDDR5 memory and support for DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.1 and Shader Model 5.0. The card also is also equipped with an engine for hardware acceleration decoding of compressed video formats, UVD3. Always the Performance version of the notebook is also provided AMD Switchable Graphics Technology, which allows you to switch between dedicated video card Intel HD 3000 IGP integrated into the processor to save energy, while the Standard version can rely exclusively IGP Intel.

Turning to the networking, Panasonic adds optional support HSPA + network, available with optional F5521gw Ericsson HSPA + (DL: 21 Mbps). Are obviously available based Gigabit Ethernet LAN, WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth, as well as other optional modules WWAN, WiMAX, GPS, and a second LAN. Also improved by 13.3-inch display and 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, which fell from a value of luminance of 1000 cd/m2 1200 cd/m2, for optimal viewing even outdoors or in the presence of strong direct light. The display also has a polarizing filter to enhance contrast and sharpness and flexible mounting panel, for protecting the screen from impact.

Then the inevitable double magnesium alloy body, both internally and externally, with thermal insulation and anti-scratch, enabling us to overcome the strict military standards MIL-STD 810G, and IP65, ensuring the Panasonic Toughbook against drops from 180 cm and offering a complete protection against water, dust, vibration and extreme temperatures. The internal HDD are also protected by a coating system and reinforced by rubber gaskets and cushioning against vibration and to improve protection from falls. In the workplace that has addressed the Toughbook CF-31 MK2, autonomy is also essential, because one might find themselves working in places where you can recharge your batteries.

Panasonic has therefore provided a system with two hot-swappable batteries. The first battery provides up to 13.5 hours. This then will be alternating with the second battery or can be used together, extend the range to 24 hours. Also fit the local context is very important for a notebook from the field as the Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 MK2 and then the manufacturer has provided an additional slot built, configurable for a second LAN, modem or firewire. New interfaces such as four USB ports, an HDMI port, a smart card reader, a biometric fingerprint sensor and a webcam option, complete the package provided by rugged notebook.

Finally, Panasonic offers a complete backward compatibility with support for car models CF-30 and CF-29 and other devices such as screen protectors, docking station and batteries of the first generation. Each Toughbook is equipped with a 3-year warranty for accidental damage to hardware and 5 years for parts of the components, with pick-up and return service commitment to repair the damaged parts within 96 hours. The range of Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 MK2 will be available from June 2011, with the Standard version priced at € 3699 excluding VAT.
